Why Does My Dog or Cat Need a Rabies Vaccine?

Dr. Arpit, a senior Veterinarian at The Pet Point shares some important facts about Rabies.. The Pet Point has taken an initiative to provide free Rabies Vaccination all September.

The video will tell you what makes it an important vaccination.
In this article, we’ll cover what you need to know about rabies, why vaccines are so important, and when you should vaccinate your dog or cat.

What is Rabies?
It is a viral disease that affects an animal’s central nervous system, ultimately causing death. It only affects mammals, including cats, dogs, and humans.

Should cats and puppies get their vaccination and when?
Puppies and kittens should first be vaccinated for rabies. They should be vaccinated when they’re 3 to 4 months old.

On rare occasions, puppies, kittens, cats, and dogs could experience a serious side effect such as:

  • Facial swelling

  • Hives

  • Vomiting

  • Itching

In a nutshell, Rabies is a frightening disease that’s transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. While there’s no cure for rabies, a rabies vaccine can help to protect cats and dogs. Even indoor cats need to be vaccinated, since you never know when one could escape or be exposed to wildlife. When you vaccinate your pets for rabies, you’ll be protecting both them and the human members of your family.

In this video, you will find more details shared by Dr. Arpit.
